Modern Foreign Languages
Our MFL Intention
At Tibberton we aim to foster interest and enjoyment of language learning and to lay foundations for later
learning in KS3, and possibly beyond, allowing pupils to connect better as travellers and to potentially work or study abroad. To foster an understanding of another culture and, through it, a deeper understanding of our own; a better awareness of self, others and cultural differences and a greater understanding of the multi-cultural world we live in. To gain a better understanding of the building blocks of our own language, such as grammar, syntax and sentence structure, and improve literacy skills and independent learning.
Top Tips for Parents
Practise Little and Often
Short, regular practice helps children remember key vocabulary and phrases more effectively than long sessions.
Listen and Copy Together
Play French songs, videos or BBC French activities and have a go at repeating the words—learning is easier (and more fun!) when you do it together.
Use Topic‑Linked Phrases
Try using some of the key phrases linked to your child’s current topic—these can be found in the year group overview and progression documents.
