Curriculum

Our Curriculum
At Tibberton, our curriculum is built around our core aim for every child to Learn, Explore, Aspire and Flourish. We want children to develop a genuine love of learning by becoming curious, confident and independent thinkers. Our approach combines strong academic foundations with rich experiences that support personal development, wellbeing and creativity.
What guides our curriculum?
Our curriculum is shaped by:
High expectations for all children, with learning that builds on what pupils already know and deepens their understanding over time.
Broad, balanced and engaging teaching, following the Early Years Foundation Stage and the National Curriculum.
Strong reading, writing, maths and vocabulary development, supported by well‑sequenced lessons and high‑quality texts.
Creativity, the arts and active learning, including music, performance, sport and outdoor learning.
Wellbeing, resilience and personal development, helping children feel a sense of belonging, valued, confident and ready for the next stage of education.
Community As a small rural school, we value our strong links with the village, local church and wider community. Children regularly take part in community events and local studies, helping them understand their place in the world while developing a sense of responsibility and belonging.
Learning in our school
Our curriculum is carefully designed to ensure all our children achieve their full potential, are respectful, have healthy bodies and healthy minds, and are well prepared for the next stages of their education and the journey ahead.
Children learn through a combination of direct teaching, practical exploration and real‑life experiences. Lessons are designed to be engaging, inclusive and carefully adapted so that all pupils—including those with SEND—can thrive. Opportunities for personal development are central to our curriculum to allow children to broaden their understanding of the world, build character and be ready for the next steps of the education. These include:
Outdoor learning and Forest School
Trips and visitors
Themed events such as Arts Week, Science Week and charity projects
Whole‑class music tuition and performances
In the Early Years, learning is inspired by children’s interests, supported by high‑quality continuous provision and in‑the‑moment interactions all based on the EYFS Curriculum. Continuous provision in Key Stage 1 extends EYFS principles by providing a structured, enabling environment where children independently apply, embed, and deepen skills learned in direct, adult-led teaching. It blends child-initiated play with academic rigor, using purposefully resourced areas to foster curiosity, independence and resilience.
At Key Stage One and Two, teachers plan purposeful units of work based on the National Curriculum that include opportunities for active learning, critical thinking and collaboration. Our long term plans are carefully constructed around meaningful topics and feature ‘key concepts’ of learning that weave throughout our curriculum, building knowledge and skills year on year. Kapow Primary schemes of work are used and adapted to enhance our teaching of Music, Design and Technology, Computing and French.
By the time children leave Tibberton Community Primary School and Early Years, they are well-prepared for the next phase of their education. They are confident, articulate and independent learners who embody our LEAF values — they have learned well, explored widely, aspired highly and flourished.
