Design and Technology

Our DT Intention

At Tibberton we aim to teach children how to design, construct, evaluate, improve. We teach children to apply wider skills (STEM) to the ‘Design and Build’ process and develop confidence and enjoyment in food technology.

Top Tips for Parents

Explore How Things Are Made
Take apart old household items (safely!) or look closely at everyday products with your child to discuss materials, joins and mechanisms.
Encourage Hands‑On Making
Provide simple craft materials, cardboard, tape, string, and recycled items so your child can design, build and experiment at home.
Cook Together as a DT Activity
Preparing meals is a brilliant way to explore measuring, mixing, following instructions and understanding food technology.
Talk About Problem‑Solving
When something breaks or needs fixing, involve your child in thinking about how it works and how it could be improved.
Celebrate Creativity and Ingenuity
Praise their ideas, prototypes and attempts—not just the finished product—to build confidence in designing and making.
