Writing

INTENT

At Tibberton CP and Early Years our intention is that children learn to write clearly, accurately and coherently, adapting their language and style in and for a range of contexts, purposes and audiences. To be able to do this effectively, children will focus on developing effective transcription skills (spelling and handwriting) and effective composition skills (articulating ideas and structuring them). We intend for pupils to leave school being able to use fluent, legible, and cursive handwriting.

IMPLEMENTATION

Writing at Tibberton is closely linked to our reading, as we believe that great readers make great writers. Our writing units are based around high quality texts that engage and stimulate the children’s imaginations and link, where appropriate, with our topics. We balance writing units and extended writing outcomes, with SPaG teaching and cross-curricular writing. We believe in engaging children across the school using creative approaches, including the use of art, drama and roleplay. At Tibberton, we plan by adapting a variety of high-quality providers including Literacy Shed, Pie Corbett's Talk 4 Writing approach, Greg Bottrell’s Drawing Club and Literacy Leaf.
