Online Saftey
Children are taught the importance of using the internet safely and responsibly, both in school and at home. Online learning and communication can be exciting and beneficial, helping pupils to connect with friends, explore their interests, and support their education. However, it is equally important to understand that the internet can also present risks and challenges if not used carefully.
To help families stay informed, parents are encouraged to attend online safety sessions provided by the Gloucestershire Constabulary, where they can learn about how to keep their children safe online and support them in developing good digital habits. Children are reminded to always think carefully before sharing personal information, posting photos, or communicating with people they do not know.
Being kind and respectful online is just as important as being kind in person, as hurtful messages or behaviour can cause harm to others. At school, help and support are always available for anyone who feels worried, uncomfortable, or unsure about something they have seen or experienced online. Pupils are encouraged to speak openly with their teacher or another trusted adult if they have any concerns.
No problem is ever too small, and by talking about online issues early, they can be resolved quickly and safely. By working together - children, parents, and school staff - we can make sure everyone learns how to use the internet positively, confidently, and safely, ensuring it remains a useful tool for learning, communication, and creativity.

Support for Parents:
We hold an annual Cyber Safe presentation to our parents. Children in Key Stage 2 have inputs from the Schoolbeat team around staying safe online; however, we have identified a significant knowledge gap between them and the parents. This is concerning especially when the majority of time spent online is at home.
We would like to improve the knowledge around this subject so the presentation covers information on Apps, Social Media, Influencers, Cyberbullying, grooming, sexting/sextortion and of course online security.
The presentation lasts approximately 1 hour 15 mins and is run by a member of the Cyber Intelligence, Protect, Prepare and Prevent Department from Gloucestershire Constabulary.
Tips for staying safe online:
- Make sure you keep new online friends strictly online. If someone you don't know asks to be your online friend you must ensure an adult knows about it.
- Know how to use the CEOP Button and how to report it to the CEOP Centre if you are concerned about someone’s online behaviour towards you.
